For many families, nights are the hardest part. A loved one who wanders, needs help to the bathroom, or simply cannot settle can mean broken sleep for everyone in the household, night after night. Night care is one of the most practical ways to break that cycle.
Sleeping night vs waking night
There are two main types of night support. A sleeping night carer is present in the home and rests, but can be woken if needed, suited to clients who need occasional reassurance or assistance. A waking night carer stays awake throughout and provides active support, better for clients with complex needs, frequent confusion, or a higher risk of falls.
Our care team can advise which type would suit your situation after a free assessment.
What a night carer actually does
Depending on the care plan, this might include helping with toilet visits, repositioning to prevent pressure sores, medication reminders, calming someone who is distressed or confused, and simply being a reassuring presence in the home.
For clients with dementia, knowing that a familiar and trusted face is there through the night can dramatically reduce anxiety and night-time wandering.
Giving family carers their rest back
The benefit for family members is significant. Even a few nights of uninterrupted sleep each week can restore the energy and resilience needed to care well during the day. If night-time is becoming unmanageable, please speak to us; we can usually put something in place quickly.
