Personal Care at Home: What to Expect

Personal Care at Home: What to Expect

Accepting help with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting) is a significant step for most people. It requires trust, and it can take courage to ask for it. At Jewel Home Support, we understand that, and everything about how we work is designed to protect dignity and make the experience as natural and comfortable as possible.

What personal care actually includes

A personal care visit typically covers some or all of the following, depending on what is needed: washing, bathing or showering, oral hygiene, hair care, dressing and undressing, continence care, and skin care. Medication prompts and meal preparation are often included in the same visit.

Care plans are individual: your loved one only receives the support they actually need, nothing more.

How we protect dignity

Carers always explain what they are doing before they do it, and always ask permission. Doors are closed, privacy is respected, and clients are encouraged to do as much as they comfortably can themselves. We aim to support independence, not replace it.

Wherever possible we match clients with a consistent small team, so the same familiar faces provide personal care over time rather than a rotation of strangers.

The first visit

Before any personal care begins, we carry out a free home assessment with the client and family to agree exactly what the care plan will look like. There is no pressure; the pace is entirely led by the client. If you would like to talk it through first, please call us.
